Supportive & integrative care
Living with an autoimmune condition usually means managing something rather than resolving it. At Trilogy Medical in Aptos, Dr. Jeff Lester, D.O. provides integrative support for patients with autoimmune conditions, working alongside their rheumatologist, endocrinologist or gastroenterologist — rather than in place of them.
This is supportive care. It is intended to sit alongside the treatment directed by your specialist, and it is not a replacement for it. We do not advise patients to stop immunosuppressant, biologic or disease-modifying medication, and you should never do so without the specialist who prescribed it. For many autoimmune conditions those medications prevent permanent damage, and stopping them can cause harm that cannot be undone.
We do not claim to reverse or resolve autoimmune disease. What integrative care can contribute is real but narrower.
Support for how you feel day to day, attention to the contributors that specialist appointments rarely have time for, and a physician who looks at the whole picture.
Where integrative care helps
Conditions we support
Rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and other thyroid autoimmunity, lupus, coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel conditions, psoriasis and eczema with an autoimmune component, and undifferentiated conditions where symptoms are clear but the diagnosis is not yet settled.
Each is different and the plan follows the person rather than the label.
Not yet diagnosed
A number of people arrive here with fatigue, joint pain, skin changes and a sense that something is wrong, without a name for it. That is worth taking seriously.
As a licensed physician, Dr. Lester can assess you, order or interpret testing, and refer you to a rheumatologist or specialist where that is what is indicated. Getting a diagnosis is not an obstacle to integrative care; it is usually the thing that makes it more useful.
Realistic expectations
Some patients find their energy improves, flares become less frequent, and daily symptoms become easier to live with. Some find particular contributors — often sleep, gut function or stress — were doing more damage than they realised.
And some find their condition continues largely as it was, with the benefit being in how supported they feel managing it. You will get an honest assessment at your first visit rather than a promise.
